What it is
Seawater carries the full spread of ocean minerals — regarded in Natural Farming as essential alongside NPK. Left in a bowl for a day, it picks up airborne microbes; when land microbes meet sea minerals and microbes the result is a fertile, brackish energy source that feeds crops and livestock. Rice-washed water and FPJ deepen the effect.
On the Nutritive Cycle: Seawater is both a reproductive input — it sweetens ripening fruit — and an all-stages mineral and microbial tonic for soil and stock.
When to use it
- Sweeten fruit — add WS-Ca to diluted seawater, spray twice in one month, then again 20 days before harvest.
- General mineral feed — dilute 1 L seawater : 30 L water (sun-dried salt is instead 2 ml per 1000 ml).
- Soil application — apply sun-dried salt at 5 kg per 10 acres.
- Livestock — to prevent summer feather loss in chickens, mix BRV (200) and WS-Ca (500) into diluted seawater and feed once every two days.
Materials
- Surface seawater — 1 L per 30 L of dilution water
- A large bowl for aging
- Optional: rice-washed water and FPJ (5 ml each), WS-Ca, OHN
How to make it
- Skim the surface. The deeper the sea, the higher the salt — so collect surface seawater.
- Age one day. Pour it into a large bowl and leave it a day to let airborne microbes go in.
- Enrich (optional). Add rice-washed water and FPJ at 5 ml each; rice-washed water acts like yeast, and OHN makes it stronger still.
- Dilute to use. Mix 1 L of seawater into 30 L of water before applying.
Signs it worked / troubleshooting
- ✅ Good: sweeter, more aromatic fruit after seawater-plus-WS-Ca sprays; healthy, well-feathered stock.
- ⚠️ Leaf or salt burn = too concentrated → hold the 1:30 dilution and don't over-apply salt.
- 🚫 Foul, rotten smell in stored seawater = spoiled → discard and collect fresh surface water.
How to store
Keep the aged seawater cool and shaded. Use diluted batches promptly rather than storing them long.
